Large apertures, very fast focal ratios and best of all, SHORT eyepiece heights! With focal ratios of less than F/4, this line of Truss-Dobsonians allows the unique observing experience of large apertures without a ladder for many observers. The "Sub4" line also yields stunning widefield views of the Milky Way and larger deep space objects like The Veil Nebula, the Rosette Nebula, the Pleiades Star Cluster and many others.

Why Buy a STS?

The Sub-F/4 revolution of high-quality Newtonian primary mirrors is upon us and has brought larger apertures down to the level of the advanced amateur astronomer, both literally and figuratively;

These large, short, scopes represent the ultimate in deep space performance in a package that is transportable and comfortable to use all night long;

Moderate to larger apertures provide stunning deep space object details to fascinate even the most experienced observer;

Sub-F/4 focal ratios allow for breath-taking widefield views of the Milky Way and large deep space objects when combined with widefield eyepieces;

Our Truss Ring makes these apertures and focal ratios a breeze to set up and transport;

Primary mirrors are supplied exclusively by Lightholder Optical (16"-22"), manufacturer of fine primary mirrors. Antares Optics provides finely crafted 1/20 P-V secondary mirrors up to 4.00" Minor Axis that are a perfect match for these fast primary mirrors. Ostahowski Optical supplies 1/10 P-V secondary mirrors larger than 4.00". Magnifications of 40x-50x per inch of aperture are achievable on nights of steady atmospheric seeing conditions;

Lightholder Optical primary mirrors come with printed test reports, while Antares Optics and Ostahowski Optical secondary mirrors come Zygo tested.

"The 20-inch scope is amazing.  I love it.  It works so well and is a joy to use.   It attracts people and optics are superb.

Scope is definitely a significant attraction at the events I’m attending.  Several individuals were interested in the scope and who built it.  Your plate on the mirror box tells the story.

I had someone who was very interested in how the scope operates, so I let him work it both manually and with the ServoCat.  He was pleased because it is smooth and well balanced.   Scope centered on requested object with ServoCat and DSCs no problem

Other visitors were taking their picture in front of it and so on.  I am really enjoying the scope.

Scope is performing great..Star images look good when mirror hits ambient temperature with no astigmatism and good object definition."
